I have no idea what I am doing

Thu Sep 15, 2016 5:27 am

I am trying to figure out how to get bitcoins and every piece of information on the internet does not make sense. I simply need a step by step process on how to use BitCoin and receive bitcoins. I am confused on if I need to ask for them or loan them or if I can simply use my credit card to buy them and instantly have them. What do I do?

Are you sure you've done your research? I found enough information on the first page that appeared on google when I did my research back then.

Yes I did, but does this mean that the only way of receiving bitcoins is through requesting them? I do not like the idea of placing my credit card information out on the web if I am just requesting bitcoins, unsure if I am actually going to get them.

Through buying them. Just like if you want to convert USD to AUD and any other currency.

To be sure that you're going to receive them, buy them using trusted bitcoin providers (e.g. coinbase)

Is https://xcoins.io a bitcoin wallet? And is it somewhat safe?

I have never heard of that wallet, but I'm not saying its unsafe. But my suggestion is that go for famous ones, like i said earlier.
Why try different ones instead of the top bitcoin wallets available?

I just want to make sure I am using the safest one. That is just one that popped up when I was researching and looking for wallets. I think coin base will be the best for me. Thank you for your help!

If you are in the US then Counbase or Circle would probably be your best options.
What country are you in?

If you do use Coinbase or another online wallet provider then once you receive your coins in your wallet you will want to move them to another wallet that you control the private keys to if not going to be used straight away, mycelium would work fine for this and is very user friendly.

Even better would be to store any coins offline but just take one thing at a time, start with public/private key pairs.

I am in the US. I will only be needing to use bit coins for one transaction and it will be made directly after I receive my coins. So since I will be using the coins right away, I will be okay with not moving them to a place that I have private keys to, right?

So I have a $60 limit on coinbase and I need something that is $230. It is going to take me a few days to build up enough bitcoins to make my purchase. Is it safe to leave bitcoins in coinbase for 3-4 days, or is that too long to keep them in there and I should move them somewhere safer?

If you are only needing to store a small amount for a short period of time, it is safe to store it with coinbase as they are insured. Be sure to set and use 2-factor authentication.

Leaving them in Coinbase for up to a day or should be fine, anymore than that and i would prefer to move them.

As this sounds a like you need bitcoins to pay for something straight away then no problems but do you mind if I ask if the coins are being used to pay a "ransomware" hacker?

Unfortunately, due to the irreversible nature of Bitcoin, almost everyone is going to be cautious with you when you use a credit card. Coinbase, circle, and all the other major exchanges will start you off with low limits

It will likely take you a few weeks of building up your limit before you can get that much btc.
