I mined bitcoins as a kid, where are they

Sat Dec 14, 2019 9:34 pm

Hello, i hope this is the right place.
Ive made a huge mistake.
This all takes places 7 or 8 years ago.
I heard about bitcoins somewhere, and started downloading software, and looking around the web.
Then i started mining bitcoins, i remember that i left my pc´s on for a few days, and let my pc do the mining.
My hdd then broke down and i forgot about it. A few days ago i found my old hard drive , and got it to run again.
The problem now is, i cant remember anything. I dont know how anything works, i forgot everything, i dont know with what program i mined, i dont know if i transfered the bitcoins to my wallet, i dont understand how this stuff even works.
All i know is after login in for the first time a few days ago, i had a folder on my desktop, named bitcoin-0.8.1-win32
I clicked on it, and there was an app in there which opened a bitcoin wallet. There are no bitcoins shown in there, but it also says upgrade required, plus its synchronizing

Do i need to upgrade and synchronize to see if anything is in that wallet? Because if not, then there of course is nothing on it, and i have to keep searching, for anything.
Do you guys know which software was the most recent 2012-13 in terms of mining, or anything that can help me?
Can anyone give me tipps on what i can or should do, i really want to find those bitcoins.
Please help me out guys, and forgive me for being a complete noob in this area.

Thank you very much

Hi Savo, you're running an old version of Bitcoin Core called Bitcoin-Qt: https://bitcoin.org/en/release/v0.8.1
I clicked on it, and there was an app in there which opened a bitcoin wallet. There are no bitcoins shown in there, but it also says upgrade required, plus its synchronizing
It's downloading the entire BTC blockchain. It will take a while (could be days).

After it's downloaded you should see your BTC.

If not you should export/dump your private keys and also save the .dat file before you doing anything else (e.g., update to a new version)

Please also see:

Please also note that aside from BTC you also have Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Bitcoin Gold and so on. You'd have to import or sweep your private keys in wallet applications which support these coins in order to access them. Please exercise due diligence before downloading and installing any applications.

The Bitcoin.com wallet app supports both BCH and BTC: https://wallet.bitcoin.com/
