Re: Privacy.Bitcoin.com is coming soon!

I don't see why coins "touching each other" is a bad thing.
It would make most graph analysis impossible. I agree coinjoin transactions with many inputs and outputs accomplish almost the same thing. (zero versus really small)
As bitcoin transactions are many-to-many mappings, eventually every coin touches every other coin anyway.
Eventually is a long time I think though, given the size of the address space. Another exception to this are mined coinbase transactions, which will be around for at least 20 more years.
If our aim is defending privacy against an attacker spy who wants to find what you do with your money, then JoinMarket is effective at doing that. It ends with so many addresses touching your coins that spies don't know which addresses are "really" yours.
I understand the premise, but I also don't like to under-estimate the power of graph analysis. Even if the amount of inputs and outputs is large, if a few transactions later one of those addresses does something of interest it may be possible to correlate them. I know JoinMarket uses mixing depths to mitigate this, but that's an argument of degree not principle in my opinion.

I don't know of any good decentralized ways to accomplish it, but I'm simply stating I think a solution where the coins going in and the coins coming out have no connection to one another would be better.
By the way, JoinMarket does not use P2SH. Almost all transactions use pay-to-pubkey-hash addresses. For more details on how the JoinMarket smart contract works, read this https://www.reddit.com/r/joinmarket/com ... contracts/ You can have a smart contract without using P2SH.
Thanks for the more correct/detailed information.

Have you heard of coinswap? It's another algorithm like coinjoin for improved privacy, but it disjoints the transaction graph.
There are downsides to it compared to coinjoin, but both have a place in the long term solution of bitcoin. It could be incentivized in the same way as joinmarket does for coinjoin.

I think it would be very useful to have a web GUI interface to JoinMarket. Something simple where you load the coins you want mixed and output addresses. The website runs joinmarket in the background. Joinmarket would also have the advantage of still being useful once confidential transactions come out and would make Joinmarket even more anonymous.

I agree.

Is there anyone interested in trying to set all this up?

Zero Knowledge Is The “Only Way To Achieve True Security”

The Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) recently reported on a growing concern that official crime statistics have not accurately captured the true scale of fraud. Although crime is down, from 19 million events in 1995 to under 7 million in 2015, the figures change dramatically with the inclusion of cybercrime.

Bitcoin Privacy Technologies - Zerocash and Confidential Transactions

At Least Authority, our mission is to bring verifiable end-to-end security to every user of the Internet. As a part of this mission, we are working on something that we can't announce yet, but it involves the Zerocash protocol for private Bitcoin transactions.

Sounds good! I was wondering about this the other day.
Many of us would like to put our coins to work to help those who can't easily use them get on board!

JoinMarket URL, for those who want to check it out: https://github.com/chris-belcher/joinmarket

The trick is how to ensure performance. If someone reputable could accept surety bonds, we could have a directory of services along with the amount held to potentially compensate its users.

I'm still willing to help with this.

* Does anyone have any collaboration happening?
* Anyone have anything running on testnet?
* Are there any prototype planned?

If everything is happening behind closed doors and nobody is expected to help, that's fine too. It just seems like this is a request for people to get involved, but not much is happening, or is nobody talking about it?

So far there has been one proposal that is currently being evaluated.

If people have additional ideas, we would love to hear them.
