The Dropbox hack is real

Earlier today, Motherboard reported on what had been rumoured for some time, namely that Dropbox had been hacked. Not just a little bit hacked and not in that "someone has cobbled together a list of credentials that work on Dropbox" hacked either, but proper hacked to the tune of 68 million records.

Yes, the dropbox hack is bad. But regarding if you should put your wallet (or other sensitive data) online, I have a different opinion.

Your sensitive data should be safe, even on your own pc. If you think your own pc is a safe environment, think again! There are dangerous zero-day exploits out there from phishing mails and drive-by attacks. Even smart people fall for it every day. A good anti-virus program is crucial but not bullet proof and can't protect you 100%. So it's really important that you encrypt your sensitive data very strong! The core wallet has such a strong encryption and when you use a long password with the usual recommended attributes (upper/lowercase alpha + digits + special chars) you are safe on your own pc and also on a cloud store like dropbox! So it doesn't matter where you put it, the security lies in the encryption of the wallet itself. No attacker can open your wallet without the password and it doesn't matter if he steals your wallet from your pc or from a cloud service. Just my two cents.
