Posting filter - anti-spam

Mon Oct 05, 2015 4:34 pm

Hello there,

i guess the forum should use a filter for spam. for example that you can only post every 1 min.

also that you cant post the same text over and over again.

links from new members should be invisible too.

I'd rather have a captcha than a time filter. Or maybe for new accounts, there is a time filter. But scammers can always buy older accounts (once the forum is older), and beat the system that way. Captchas can be beaten too, they aren't that useful anymore, at least the older style ones; I think bots can beat recaptcha now or have learned to beat them. Not sure, last I read up on it a year or two ago it wasn't looking too good. I ran my own phpbb forum for a bit and it got filled with spam like the kinds this forum is seeing now too. It's hard to manage it, not really sure the best way to defend against it without making the UX for everyone else crappy.

So it looks like to me, the spam has gotten out of control. Maybe for the time being until a better way it is managed, there needs to be filters in place as LiteCoinGuy suggested.

What I would propose is that brand new accounts are only allowed to post 1 new post maybe for the first two to four hours so it's restricted. After the two to four hours (or whatever time frame you think is best) passes, then they are allowed to post more.

For new accounts, are you able to enable CAPTCHA? If so, I would enable CAPTCHA on all new accounts or with posts under X-amount.
