Difference between coins and tokens?

Are coins and token different from each other or just another name for coins?

Both coin and token usually used as synonyms and consider similar, But they are entirely different from each other.

Coins and tokens  are two different kinds of units created using cryptography named cryptocurrency.

Coins -
Coins which are also known as altcoins, or alternative cryptocurrency coins are digital money, created using encryption techniques which store value, and it is digitally equivalent of money.

Token -
Tokens are digital assets, issued by the project, which can use as a method for payment inside projects ecosystem, similar functions with coins, but the main difference is that it also gives the holder a right to participate in the network.

The main difference between altcoins and tokens lies in their structure. Altcoins are independent currencies with their separate blockchain, while tokens work on top of the blockchain, which facilitates the creation of decentralized applications.
