A good bitcoin article that killed itself in the end (Roger, it has you in it)

Fri May 20, 2016 9:53 pm

Hey Roger, I thought this article was interesting. Not sure if you were involved with it or not (maybe not, no quotes from you). I thought it was an interesting article, until I read the last paragraph. I really hate to read things like this especially when they are debunked stories and not facts.

Last paragraph (page 2):
The U.S. has more virtual currency transactions than any other country. While bitcoin is increasingly accepted at supermarkets and gas stations, some policymakers worry that cryptocurrencies could be used to fund terrorist groups. The Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks last November. According to media reports, the attackers had accumulated $15.6 million in bitcoin and other virtual currencies. Authorities in Japan and elsewhere are just beginning to come to grips with the challenge of cryptocurrencies.

I bolded the part that I feel is terribly written. The whole terrorist story was debunked, nobody could ever prove they have had or held at any point any bitcoin.

The Nikkei seems to lack even basic fact checking.

Check out this quote from a recent article:

So the value of all the Bitcoin in the entire world is about $7 billion, but I made $10 billion by speculating on them.....

I've done my own research as well and it all goes back to this supposed hacking group finding a bitcoin address belonging to ISIS but the hacking group NEVER released or published a bitcoin address belonging to them. Then later they back tracked and said there was no bitcoin address. But mass-media already had their hooks in the story and the rest is history.
