Refusing to Decrypt Hard Drives May Equal Indefinite Jail Time

Tue May 17, 2016 8:55 pm

I just read this article on news.bitcoin.com :

https://news.bitcoin.com/refusing-decry ... ives-jail/

This idiotic idea is wide open to all sorts of abuse. I really hope they get their act together before this gets out of hand.

So - all one would have to do to indefinitely lock up someone he does not like, is hide an encrypted hard drive (could be an empty one) in the house of the victim (the opposite of a burglary). And then do an anonymous child pornography tip.

The "owner" of the hard drive cannot possibly decrypt it, and claims it is not his. Authorities will not believe him (otherwise this becomes the go-to argument), and lock him up indefinitely.

Crazy.

Shame.

This is unconstitutional in my country, including "indefinite jail".

Torture is also unconstitutional, but they will certainly do that to you to get your keys... If you really don't know the keys or you die or survive the suffering.

Sad facts. LOL!
