This forum vs BitcoinTalk.org

Wed May 11, 2016 12:49 am

I'm curious as to why the traffic for this forum is much smaller than the traffic compared to Bitcointalk.org. Both seem like "official" bitcoin forums and this one seems to be even MORE official yet it has maybe 1/20th of the traffic of that one.

At any rate, I'm grateful to be a member of this forum!

bitcointalk is several years old and has a first mover advantage. this is the main reason.
bitcoin.com is just several month old but has already a better look and functionality :)
over time, bitcoin.com will become a hotspot for bitcoin related things.

I still post on bitcointalk a bit but I am really getting sick of the spam for signature payments some members are receiving for posts that are barely readable mostly because their english is so bad.

There is some smart people there and you can normally always get at least 1 helpful answer out of the 5 pages of sig spam in the thread you created asking for help on a bitcoin problem.

I don't care if people want to get paid for making a few posts but it needs to be much more tightly regulated and that's why we have not got signature campaigns here yet, it has been discussed.

As others above had said this forum is still quite new and it will pick up, I think some of our features are much better and i really like the notifications when one of your posts has been quoted.

It would still be good to change the smilies we have, I'm not a fan of the current ones

bitcointalk.org will shake you down for membership fees, definitely not what an internet forum is about.

How do you mean shake you down for membership fees?

I know that if you want that "donator" or "VIP" tag then it's going to cost you 10-50 btc i think it still is.

Some members have custom titles and they probably get that for a smaller donation or something, sig campaigns may pay a percentage for operating there but i don't know about that one.

Who knows if they sell defult trust on that site but i have read some post where people have suspicions.

Depending on which class of an ip you signup from, they will lock your account and force you to pay a fee before posting ($45 - $50 USD).

Ah yes i have heard of that happening on more than one occasion, thanks for reminding me.

I think that shows how much these signature campaigns mean to some members there. Most who get these bans/fines are most likely pro sig spammers and the forums knows it, give em the opportunity to pay a small fine and they are free to spam away for sig payments again until they cop another fine and it just goes round and round and the forum makes BTC.

Don't get me started on this "new forum" they talk about i got to go to bed and we could go into that for hours.

I will PM you tomorrow.

Indeed, they should change  - somehow we should add the Whats App smilies if they have no "copyright".
There are 1 Billion whats app users in the world - these smilies are a "must have".

This is minor, but one thing that could help improve the forum is if the poster's identity is shown on the left side of their posts as we're all so accustomed to that.

Hmm, I think I kind of agree with this. Sometimes the best way to reinvent the wheel is to use the most familiar parts to create something new and improved!
