Proposal for 'Node operators' section

Thu Oct 01, 2015 10:25 pm

I've been feeling a bit disenfranchised about running a node these days. With all the block size debate the node operators haven't been given a voice. There's been a lot of discussion about the miners but the block size is something that mostly affects node operators.

I also think node operators should be rewarded, similar to what Dash is doing. Dash has a governance structure where each node gets to vote on proposals. We could use this node operator section to discuss how we could implement a similar governance structure through nodes in Bitcoin, which could incentivise more decentralisation.

Thanks for the idea. We will see how many requset we receive about this topic before opening a "node operators" section.
It would be good for the node operators to come together on this forum to discuss there concerns.

I don't follow Dash as much as i used to but i do like the governance structure where each node gets to vote on proposals.
I would be worried that this system could this be open to abused where as someone may just set up a heap of nodes just to get more votes or is it more governed than that?

There's a cost of 1000 Dash to run an incentivised voting node (around $2,300 USD). Granted this is probably too high for Bitcoin node operators, but a low cost (say around $5 USD worth of Bitcoin) could be low enough to be affordable but high enough to prevent attackers gaming the system.
