Problem accessing wallet

Hi, I am new on this forum. I have a question, can the same bitcoin wallet with all the bitcoins on it be accessed after erasing it and downloading a new one? When i try to access my wallet an error report pops out telling me there has been a problem loading database and after i click ok, another window pops up saying : "The application has requested the runtime to terminate it in a unusual way, please contact the application support team for more inoformation".

Do you have wallet.dat or private keys backup ?
