Spending Bitcoins

Fri Apr 08, 2016 11:52 am

To grow the adoption of bitcoin we need people spending it as a daily currency.
In my country there is not much I cant buy with bitcoins.
Granted not a lot of retailers accept BTC yet but with all the services available now they dont need to.
A bitcoin debit card can be very gandt

Nowadays if I need to pay a bill then I can pay any bill via a site called livingroomofsatoshi

Please list any reasons why you could not use bitcoin for day to day expenses and maybe we can find a way.

Power and gas companies don't even take credit cards it's check or bank transfer only for them. As for most of my other bills it's not worth using bitcoin when the credit card company gives me cash back and there is no discount for cash even. Why wouldn't I take that? Credit card company doesn't get a penny in interest or fees from me so it make sense to get money from them. If the option for bitcoin was there and at at even a 1% discount I would use bitcoin. Now I do use bitcoin nearly every day just not for normal expenses.

At least in the UK it's not possible to pay your gas / elec / water etc with bitcoin as large organizations have a monopoly on these markets and accepting bitcoin does not make sense as they have to train / hire support staff. It isn't widely used yet so they cannot justify doing that.

It's all about planting seeds in people's minds about the benefits of the technology at this stage i think. My favourite thing to do is put paper wallets in street performers cases when i walk past containing a small amount of BTC with some info on the back to educate them a little.
That is a great thing to do, good idea.

As for paying bills i would recommend that you contact livingroomofsatoshi and explain your situation.
They may be able to help you or at least mention a way that you could pay your bills with BTC. It really shouldn't be too hard these days to purchase just about anything with bitcoin.
