CoinFest

Fri Apr 01, 2016 5:11 pm

Hi,

I'll be attending CoinfestUK this year & doing some basic education workshops, and I was wondering if there's anyone here attending any of the other events happening around the world?

To raise awareness, provide enthusiasts with a good networking opportunity, to provide insight and education, I guess...much the same as other bitcoin conferences, with the differences that this is a free event and therefor doesn't exclude people going the basis of how much they can afford to pay to attend :-)

To get a proper actual answer to the question "what is the purpose" though, you'd have to go straight to the people organising the events globally, I'm just a guy volunteering his time for a good cause and sharing a personal opinion :-)

This is Andrew, the founder of CoinFest. Its purpose is to foster decentralization and cryptocurrency adoption; it is held simultaneously around the world at venues which accept Bitcoin. Funds are held in a 10-of-15 multisig vault, with the hope of eventually developing a fully autonomous decentralized organization.

The event in Manchester will probably have the greatest turnout, but the one in Switzerland will be the longest, lasting the whole six days. Events around the world tune into the International Hangout, which allows virtual presentation to a distributed audience. There will also be lots of giveaways, games and prizes.

Today was the first day of CoinFest, which lasts through April 10. Events are being held in Amsterdam and Switzerland, with more in both cities tomorrow as well as in Vancouver, Tampa Bay and Seoul. Tomorrow will also be the Andreas Antonopoulos presentation; stay tuned for more details.

That's pretty cool, a 10-of-15 multisig vault.

Thanks. :) Unfortunately we're about to downgrade because CoinKite is closing, and nobody else offers more than half that many signatories

I didn't know that Coinkite offered that many.
If nobody else is offering that and it was something popular then i see a business opportunity, design your own..
Maybe there is someone who attends the meetups that could put this together for you.

CoinFest 2016 was quite eventful, indeed. As predicted, CoinFest UK was the epicenter, with Amsterdam also generating a lot of buzz. Other hotspots included Ghana, Shanghai and Bangalore, Washington DC and Switzerland, and eMunie was our greatest sponsor. Due to CoinKite's untimely shutdown and other unforeseen circumstances, however, some of the global activities were reduced in scale.

The silver lining is that this lack of liquidity caused us to have around 2.7 BTC left over, a great starting point from which to fundraise for next year's events. Unfortunately, our short-term Copay wallet comes with a mandatory feature that creates a new HD address for every transaction... this disrupted our Transparency System, but it is now fixed along with other updates to coinfest.org.

Once the Previous Events page is updated and CoinFest 2017 page made live, it will be announced in a new thread ("CoinFest 2017") in this forum. CoinFest also now has a forum of its own so that organizers around the world can have structured conversation and share details about how CoinFest operates and their own local events... check it out at forum.coinfest.org for the most comprehensive information
