Bitmain’s New Miner Is Attracts Criticism from Early Users

Mon Jun 04, 2018 12:50 pm

After the launch of the AntMiner B3, Bitmain, China’s mining hardware giant, has been widely criticized over the alleged marketing tactics as well as its quality. Upon its launch, the first batch of 25,000 B3 miners was sold out just in seconds. The price for this new device was quoted at 17,000 Chinese yuan (or $2,600) per unit. Reports indicate that the AntMiner B3 was launched on April 25; just a day after Bytom team unveiled their mainnet.

The B3 miner’s official specification states that it has a “computing power of 750 hashes per second”. The first buyers set the complaints rolling when they claimed that Bitmain had indeed exaggerated B3’s power capability in its marketing.

Indeed, the miners did a test to determine the authenticity of the 700 hashes per second as Bitmain had claimed. According to the source, the test revealed that the AntMiner B3 is only capable of producing between 500 and 600 hashes per second. This, according to them, reduced their daily earni9ngs from 47 BTM per day to as low as single digit production.

Complaints streamed in fast, leading to the formation of social media groups especially on the app WeChat and more findings shared on the Chinese Q&A site Zhihu. Other allegations levelled against Bitmain are the alleged use of recycled or secondhand material in the production of the said miners. This was from the fact that the fan of the ‘brand new’ AntMiner B3 was covered with dusk. This could be contributing to the low performance experienced. As a result, an account has been created at Weibo with an aim of compelling Bitmain to refund the cash.
