Question about bitcoin...

Sat Jan 20, 2018 3:50 am

So question... I was watch a bitcoin documentary on Netflix and they were explaining how bitcoin cannot be hacked like banks can, targets, Home Depots, etc... due to the fact that theirs just too many computers, etc.... SO my question is if bitcoin cannot be hacked like they say, then how did North Korea end up hacking them....?

North Korea hasn't "hacked" Bitcoin.

Maybe you're talking about a website (e.g., a bitcoin exchange site or maybe an online wallet site) which could get hacked.

Bitcoin the technology is virtually hack-proof. It's many other things that can be hacked. Users could have bad security practices, exchanges could have bad security practices (if you leave coins on there, you should always use cold storage solutions like Trezor).

That's not even the problem. South Korea I doubt will be able to hack them, although they're trying so hard to. The thing is, it's impossible to hack because of a large amount of computers mining it, as far as I know. But pretty soon there'll be nothing to mine.

Block-chain technology actually hasn't been hacked to this day, though some speculate it could be hacked by the likes of quantum computing (not a threat right now). However, where the real vulnerability comes into play (and probably what you saw regarding btc being hacked) is with third party services such as wallets and exchange sites. These can be hacked and have been hacked, which often leads to misleading headlines and/or news articles about bitcoin being 'hacked.' Again, these third party services are where the potential dangers lie, after all, they are only as safe as their security features permit.

Hope this helped clear up the misconception! Cheers.

I doubt that South Korea hacked bitcoin. Most likely it just stole them from the market. But so far I haven't heard news about it being possible to hack bitcoin.

Bitcoin hasn't been hacked yet, so you can sleep with a peaceful mind. It's based on the blockchain technology, which is introduced practically to all the work spheres.

Bitcoin adress is protected by SHA-256 hash so it's very very hard to hack it... (practically unattainable right now)

The exchange sites got hacked not the bitcoin network, the bitcoin network was designed to NOT be hackable.

Bitcoin is solid and deeply rooted, I don't think the hacker who can uproot it has been born. So investors feel 100% secure with their bitcoin. If you want be safe use hard wallets and do not save your bitcoins or coins on exchange sites. Exchange websites a very much prone to hack these days. You could lose your coins any time.

I don't think the North Koreans hacked Bitcoin. They must have hacked a website or something like this. It is not possible to hacked the entire Bitcoin system. You can try to hack someone's wallet or breach through an exchange but it is too hard to carry out something of this magnitude.
