Rid bitcoin.com of faucets

Sat Jan 23, 2016 10:39 pm

After reading a scam post from BitcoinDaily.org, can you please disallow the majority promotion of faucets? They are not gambling, they are 99% scams, I am sure the admins agree. Bitcoin.com is flooded with these scams all originating from the same characters out of india.

You slimeball scammers giving Bitcoin a bad name, we will clean you out:

I'm not sure if we need to rid bitcoin.com of faucets - there is a special board for them I believe and that board page has a clear warning of the risks (or, if it is not clear enough - that should be improved)

What I would prefer, is if the board had functionality that does the following two things:

1. When a user places a link, the forum software could open that link. If there are redirects, as is often the case with referral links, the link chain could be followed until a page is displayed. Then, the link is replaced with the final link. This reduces referral link spamming (assuming the board moderator / owner wishes to do this - I don't know).

2. I would like to disable certain boards from showing up in my latest post list, and I would like to disable certain users from triggering an update on this list. Right now, I am annoyed at all these faucet links only because I see them on the main page.

99% of Faucets are:

1) Annoying
2) Scams

What you said is like saying to people "if you go this way, 99% of the time you will lose your money". No disclaimer can navigate sheep in another direction, they are sheep. Gambling can never be fun if you are marked as a loser from the start.

I happen to agree with the annoyance to see the sub forum Micro Earnings overflowing the recent topics on the index page, so I've removed this forum section from that feature for now.

I don't know what you think I am scamming. If the community is opposed to faucets I have no problem removing mine from my sig. You just need to accept faucets for what they are, not a viable source of income.

I had also noticed that the faucets are flooding the forum, not being a user of faucets i nevers check them out.

The micro earnings board was probably the most popular but not needed if they are just scams.

I do check faucets, we could make subsection in micorearning + have blacklist of some scam faucets like SATOSHIxxxx (ocean, nine, eight) etc.
Few scammers shouldnt waste it for everybody. Theres ie freebitco.in/ who pays since 2years+
and theres some others that are real, so sure we need a solution but maybe lets not put everybody into scammer tag ;)

People LOVE faucets.

A better idea will be a wall of fame - the most used/voted/serious faucets list, so the new users can have a good list of earning some satoshis.

This is a good idea.
I believe the micro-earnings/ section should stay but maybe we have the moderator of that section should select which ones are added and which ones are removed based on social media ratings, payout history etc.

I don't use faucets now but it did help me in the beginning, just a few mBTC is all you need to start playing around with a few transactions.

I think the Micro Earning section should stay because it brings a healthy amount of traffic, it just needs to be moderated more heavily.

I used faucets 2 years ago, then I passed them to my mom (she's 70yrs old retired with lot of time). She's doing pretty good job with them, already have 2 BTC only from faucets earnings. Sometimes I send her some more to her wallet but she always said that these BTC are for future generations and she's saving them for my daughter...
