Transaction in limbo

I just tried to make an online purchase using bitcoin, it didn't go so well.

I'm using Bitcoin XT version v0.11.0.0-2b918be and connect over tor. The problem was that my tor node was down when I sent the transaction. When I didn't receive confirmation from the payment processor I started to look into it and then restarted my tor node and wallet.

The problem seems to be that the wallet thinks that it was already sent the transaction, it says Status: 0/unconfirmed but I can't see it on any blockchain explorers.

Is there any way to cancel the transaction? If not, can I make the wallet retransmit the transaction, even if I have to go through the hassle of getting my bitcoins back from the payment processor, as the order has expired since long.

Is there a txid? After long enough if it is unconfirmed you will get it back. Did you pay a transaction fee?

Sounds like there was a connectivity error when you sent the transaction. I believe that the bitcoin wallet software will rebroadcast transactions after they have not been confirmed after x amount of time.

The wallet did rebroadcast the transaction by it self after some time. After a hour or so, I'm not sure. But that didn't help much as the order had expired and I had to go through a bit of hassle to sort it all out.

I wish there was a manual rebroadcast option for situations like these.

You could do this (from full node wallets, such as XT, Classic, Unlimited and Core).

Find the transaction id from the wallet.

In the debug window, type:

Code: Select all

getrawtransaction <transactionid>

copy the result that is returned.

And, type:

Code: Select all

sendrawtransaction <copied-data>

That rebroadcasts the transaction immediately.

Wallets really could making rebroadcasting easier. Just a right mouse click on the tx would be great. If anyone feels like having a go at that - bitcoin is open source so you could submit a patch to the fork of your choice (or multuple)
