CoinDesk: No, you won't go to jail for supporting Bitcoin Classic

Wed Feb 17, 2016 12:05 am

The fear and scaremongering that is taking place in the bitcoin forums, reddits and twitters is just mind-boggling. Lately, there have been a few posts on whether developers of Bitcoin Classic could go to jail if they failed to register as a MSB and people wondered if hosting a bitcoin classic node would somehow open them up to legal problems.

Wow.

Thanks to CoinDesk for an article that puts this legal stuff in perspective.

Do software developers contributing code to blockchain projects need to lawyer up? Could those contributions subject them to money services business (MSB) regulations under US law? Are we going to see developers go to jail for failing to get the proper licenses?

These were just some of the questions I received, and the answer to all of them is: of course not.
(emphasis is mine).

When in doubt, ask a lawyer!
