Does anyone know the reason or for how long it has been down?

If they haven't updated nginx, it may be a glitch due to that.Has anyone else noticed that https://electrum.org/ is offline?

I have been commanding the troops to fix a ton of clients nginx issues in the past week
If you are running a version of Bitcoin Core, stop using it. Upgrade to Bitcoin Unlimited or Classic immediately.
