Trezor vs. Ledger Nano

Sat Sep 19, 2015 10:24 pm

I've been wanting to get some kind of BTC hardware wallet for some time now but am still undecided about what to get. Would love to hear everyone's opinions. I'm sure most will say that a paper wallet is best, and I'm sure that is most likely the case, but I'm specifically looking for opinions about hardware.

And...GO!

Paper wallets are best left to the pros. Trezor is probably the easiest and most secure.

Trezor is my favorite. Ledger Nano uses an extra card to prevent sending to a fake address that you reference while the Trezor uses a screen to visually inspect the address. Ledger Unplugged looks neat for a portable solution that works like the Nano.

I have a Ledger Nano and I am really pleased with it. It's true that there is a separate card that I have to reference when I want to make transactions. I like the prompt to ensure that I want to actually make the transaction.

I've never used a Trezor, though I have wanted to. Maybe I'll get one and put some bitcoin on that just to try it out.

hardware wallets are fine - both trezor and ledger nano.

but i always recommend not to store all bitcoins in one device. use several methods for storing larger amounts. you could do this split for example:

1/3 = Hardware Wallet
1/3 = Paper Wallet
1/3 = Xapo.com Vault

very unlikely that you will lose all coins now ;)

Thanks for the replies guys. I do agree that holding all your BTC in one place is a very bad idea. Sounds like trezor might be the way to go for a hardware option right now.

If anyone else has an opinion please chime in!

I would agree that using a Trezor is a very safe way to store your coins but paper wallets are not as hard as they once were to master and will never fail like a electronic device.

To create my paper wallets i use a Mycelium entropy usb device that plugs direct into your printer. All you need to do is disconect the internet cable plug in the Entropy device and hit print, done and now you have a 100% secure paper wallet that the private keys have never been on the net.

I also have one of these for sale if anybody is interested, just PM me of you have any questions.

I think both are good options, and are very similar hardware wallets that both have high security in mind. Ledger claims to be more secure than Trezor because of it's "elements" (smart card) architecture, but I'm sure Trezor would be abe to refute that claim to some degree; in either case, it's above my mental capacity. ;)

There are a few other hardware wallets on the market too, so do your homework, see what works best for you; price, location, security, convenience, and so on, before making a decision.

Trezor has that multi password feature, but Ledger is also very convenient and cheaper. I stick with Ledger for now, but both are good actually.
