Physical Demo Bitcoin - Series 1 from 2011

Tue Jan 30, 2018 2:39 pm

I am trying to put a value on a rare demo bitcoin that was created by Casascius in 2011. The only information I have been able to find online is the following:
"This is one of the first experimental coins created and they were used to test the holograms to reveal the honeycomb pattern left behind, without ever being funded.
The coins are identified by looking up the public key on a peeled, seemingly ‘pre-funded’ coin. If no BTC has ever been in the address, then it is possibly a demo coin. Currently, demo coins are only known to exist in brass 1 BTC form."

The coin in my possession has the following public key: 1E562iYs

Any assistance would be appreciated and I am also looking at selling the coin if anyone is willing to make a reasonable offer. Pictures can also be provided.

I listed one of mine on here back in December. I was looking for at least $20K USD, but not takers. They have gone for much more on ebay, but I suspect that those were transacted using paypal. I won't trust any reversible form of payment. I asked a few coin dealers and one major auction house. None of them are ready to be selling physical bitcoins yet. The easiest way, and right now perhaps the best way, to turn it into fiat would be to peel the hologram and sell the BTC and BCH on an exchange. I don't want or need to do that. Several years ago the best bet financially would have been to sell them for 2BTC on the forum and then keep the BTC as they have less premium as the fiat price of crypto goes up. I will probably just hold mine for a few more years until Sotheby's and Christie's are ready to sell them.
