Honestly, who here has gotten annoyed/bothered by block timer being 0-1h+?

Sun Dec 13, 2015 11:11 pm

I find it hard to understand sometimes how bitcoin isn't evolving alongside other coins that come out on a daily basis. It feels like it's falling back and most people seem to be too into the market and other aspects without realizing that bitcoin may sort of fall in the steps of netscape for instance where it was one of the first to do its job but better ones came out and did their job better and overtook the originals over time. I feel the people who are in charge should start figuring out change and listen to the people when they are starting to want change over the currency they believe in.

Now for instance I've been waiting 50mins for 1 confirmation and my exchange needs 6 until I can trade my coins.

when you have nothing to lose (any new coin), you can make big changes every day because nobody cares.
bitcoin has a 6 billion market cap and thounsands of people arround the globe rely on that system. this is the reason why there is so much discussions and testing before we change the system - and that is good!
i guess there will be a time where we see changes only every 3-5 years.

how long would it take and how much would it cost if you would sent fiat to that exchange ;) ?

your "problem" will be solved with Sidechains in the future.

I feel like devs could easily implement a small block size increase with a predicable rate over time to ease the pain now. They choose not to due to political issues (in my opinion) which is now starting to hurt Bitcoin.

I think that it is unfortunate that the miners, merchants, exchanges and customers are not wielding the power that they have.

I vote for BIP101 blocks with my miners. That by itself is not enough - I don't think my miners have found a block lately (I would need a few warehouses full of machines to make a difference)... but I don't understand the passive "let's all agree to get along" mentality when there is no agreement. Vote for BIP101. Vote for something else if you think something else is better. Sure, have an open and honest dialogue. But use the power you have and don't ask for permission.

I'm not afraid of a hard fork in bitcoin. That is inherent in it's design. It's one of the reasons I like bitcoin.

That said, I do think that the scalability will get resolved. Simply because it HAS to, and I can't see miners destroying their entire investment for not making a choice. Not choosing is also a choice.

I think all avenues need to be explored: block size increases, side chains, micropayment channels - they all need to coexist for bitcoin to reach it's potential. There is no danger in increasing the block size and taking some pressure off - the rest is not ready and a solution is needed urgently.

Also, let the market fix the problems they have! If someone has bad connectivity in China - make sure they find a solution! The market is smart and will fix problems, if you let it. If you shield it from problems, it will not. I mean, really - someone can invest hundreds of millions of dollars in mining equipment and hundreds of thousands of dollars in electricity per month.... and they cannot figure out that they could rent a couple of servers at Amazon to do the blockchain work - and only send the hashes that the miners need to work on to a local server? Really? Problems will get fixed. If you let them. They will get worse, if you shield them. Stop shielding them!!
Excited about the potential of Bitcoin Cash in the beautiful country of Belize.

OPs problem has nothing to do with blocksize. :|

@arnoudk

i share some parts of your opinion. the free market will solve problems and these chinese guys should not stop us from releasing slightly bigger blocks.

and dont forget Segregated Witness, that could grow capacity by x4
