Re: Update on Dr. Craig Wright being Satoshi - he is possibly the victim of a scam to extort him

Pretty sad. I hope he and his family is ok.

I'm also curious if that was the case why Dr. Craig Wright was so coy about being Satoshi. Maybe he is actually but he hid his tracks so well the evidence had to be forged?

This is all exciting, but I do really hope that CW and his family stay safe. The reporters and everyone really should have just left it alone until there was actual solid proof to prevent harming anyone.

I don't think Wright is Satoshi. There's too much proof debunking it at this point. To me at this point, he would have to prove that he is Satoshi. The only 100% way would be to sign the genesis Bitcoin address.

I'm disappointed in Gwern and Wired. Both very reputable but both ignored the crypto proof that invalidates the PGP signatures including the fake blog post inserts.

Gwern is the real surprise here, and I haven't lost all respect for Gwern but certainly will be taking any further information with a grain of salt.

Yeah, same here. Everyone makes mistakes, but maybe I'm just a bit more disappointed as usually you can count on him for quality, morals, ethics. Some of that was glossed over for this "scoop."

poor journalism, very poor.

5 hours after the first story the bitcoin community collected enough evidence to proof that this guy is just a moron. :ugeek:

And these guys had a month to to check pgp signatures.

It is still really weird that this has been what seems to be a 20 month long con on the part of Dr. Craig Wright. If it was extortion he could have just denied it to Wired and Gizmodo and they probably wouldn't have published anything.
