BCH/BCC address was provided instead of BTC

Thu Nov 23, 2017 6:33 am

Hi,
I tried to make a BTC purchase using Credit Card and accidentally provided a BCH/BCC (Bitcoin cash wallet) address instead of the BTC (Bitcoin wallet) address.
Reading the forum: the following steps were listed to recover.
In the steps below - Can someone please clarify what needs to be copied from one wallet to another?

- Go to Home > New wallet (press the '+' icon) > New personal wallet
- Do not select the Bitcoin Cash option, as you want to recover your BTC. (Grey is off and sets up a BTC wallet, green is on and sets up a BCC wallet)
- Enter a name for the wallet (I would suggest BTC recovery) > Show advanced options > Wallet key
- Copy from wallet... > Select Wallet To > [Your Bitcoin Cash Wallet]
- Create new wallet

This will create a Bitcoin (BTC) wallet from your Bitcoin Cash (BCC) wallet seed.

You can do the following to retrieve your BTC from your BCH wallet:

1) Press home in bottom left

2) Press the + sign on the right of "Bitcoin Legacy (BTC) wallets"

3) Create personal wallet. Enter a name for the wallet, for example "BCH recovery wallet"

4) Turn on Bitcoin Legacy (BTC)

5) Show advanced options

6) Change “Random” to “Specify Recovery Phrase”

7) Type your BCH wallet's recovery phrase (you can get it from Settings > [Name of your BCH wallet] > Backup)

8) Make sure "Single address wallet” are turned OFF. You don't need to change the derivation path.

9) Create wallet

10) Go to Settings > [BTC recovery wallet] > More Options > Wallet Addresses

11) Tap 'Unused Addresses' at least 20 times / until you get an "Empty addresses limit reached" message

12) Tap 'Scan addresses for funds'

13) Your BTC will now appear in your BTC recovery wallet.

Again, you can manage both Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) in your Bitcoin.com wallet, but you must not send BTC to a BCC address and vice-versa. You should send BTC only to addresses in your Bitcoin.com BTC sub-wallet, and you should send BCH only to addresses in your Bitcoin.com BCH sub-wallet.

Hi,
I followed the steps listed and tried to create a recovery wallet. When i provided the BCH wallet recovery phrase and hit Create new wallet - The error message "Key already associated with an existing wallet" is shown.

Please advise how to proceed. Greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks

Hello,

I am also having this same issue. I accidently sent BCH to a BTC wallet, so the BCH funds are not showing within the BTC wallet, and I would like to recover those funds. If possible.

I also followed the instructions provided by nandibear and I get the same error results "error message "Key already associated with an existing wallet"

The original BTC wallet that was created and funds were sent too still exists within the bitcoin.com app. Does this need to be removed before trying the steps provided by Nandibear? A concern removing the BTC wallet before the funds have been recovered may result in complete loss of funds??

I've also tried using this method provided by bitcoin.com https://walletsupport.bitcoin.com/artic ... btc-wallet but I got the same error "error message "Key already associated with an existing wallet"

Thank you in advance for your reply.

This seems like a reoccuring problem. This is YOUR money, so you have to be diligent in sending to the right address and keeping your coins safe. Luckily, in your case, you are still in control of the BCH address.

What you want to do is export the private keys of the BTC wallet which you sent the BCH to. Your BTC wallet is trying to find the Bitcoin on that address on the Bitcoin network, not on the Bitcoin cash network. That is why your BCH is not showing up. To get your wallet to identify your BCH, export the private keys of the BTC wallet into a BCH wallet. you might want to use a different wallet that is not Bitcoin.com's, since it tries to protect you by not allowing you to have the same private key for a Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash wallet.

Install a wallet like Electron cash and then input your wallet seed into it. It should work fine, and then you will be able to access your funds again.

Update:

After following the steps (Slightly Modified) provided above. I was able to recover my funds:

You can do the following to retrieve your BTC from your BCH wallet:

1) Press home in bottom left

2) Press the + sign on the wallet you want to recover funds into (mine was BCH)

3) This is where I digressed within the Add Wallet Screen and selected "Import Wallet" instead of New Personal Wallet.
Enter a name for the wallet, for example "BCH recovery wallet"
  • Once this modification was made I no longer got the error creating the wallet, and I was able to recover my funds using the reset of the process below
4) Type your BCH wallet's recovery phrase (you can get it from Settings > [Name of your BCH wallet] > Backup)

5) Coin - BCH (or whatever you're trying to recover)

6) Show advanced options

7) Make sure "Single address wallet” are turned OFF. You don't need to change the derivation path.

8) Create wallet

9) Go to Settings > [BTC recovery wallet] > More Options > Wallet Addresses

10) Tap 'Unused Addresses' at least 20 times / until you get an "Empty addresses limit reached" message

11) Tap 'Scan addresses for funds'

12) Your BTC will now appear in your BTC recovery wallet.

Hi,

Yes i confirm, IT WORKS ! on Android , APP bitcoin.com V4.04
God save my mistake ;)
in my case, i withdrawn BCH from a website with a BTC address, after 6 days i realized my mistake !

To fix this issue:

i created a new BCH wallet "BTC recovery wallet" with my BTC wallet's recovery phrase (change “Random” to “Specify Recovery Phrase”).

i got no error message
then i followed these steps

9) Home - Settings > [BTC recovery wallet] > More Options > Wallet Addresses

10) Tap 'Unused Addresses' at least 20 times / until you get an "Empty addresses limit reached" message

11) Tap 'Scan addresses for funds'

12) Your BTC BCH will now appear in your BTC recovery wallet within 2 seconds

now i have 2 BCH wallets and 1 BTC wallet.

At the end i would like to have a unique BCH wallet.
So how can i transfert all my BCH from "BTC recovery wallet" to my normal BCH wallet "Bitcoin cash Wallet" ?
and delete this "BTC recovery wallet".

Thanks,

Thanks Hektik1n,

I used a credit card to buy BTC and gave them a BCH address. Simplex
Verified the purchase and gave me a link to see the BTC, but of course the transaction doesn't show up in my BCH wallet (Bitcoin.com)

Like you, when I tried the procedure provided in the Bitcoin.com help center (which you re-typed) I got the same error (new wallet can't be created because key already associated with a wallet).

I am confused by your fix - which is to import a wallet rather than create a new one - so I'm afraid to try it without further advice. If I press "import", for example, there is nowhere to give the wallet a name (as told to do after your modification). Can you (or anyone else) walk me through exactly what happens under the import menu. Was the name thing just a mistake in trying to stick close to the original Bitcoin fix?

I'm not exactly thrilled with Bitcoin.com's help here. Their step-by-step explanation would be great if it worked. I can't believe we are the only two who have had this problem.

UPDATE:

Hello everyone. My issue was solved, by me - a NEWBie. Here again - problem and solution...

Problem: I downloaded the Bitcoin.com wallet and purchased BTC with a credit card. Because I gave Simplex (credit card transaction partner for Bitcoin.com) an address generated under my Bitcoin Cash wallet I expected the coin to appear there. After several hours of waiting, panic set in. I contacted Simplex and they verified my purchase was went through. They sent me a link to where I could see my BTC - it just wouldn't show in my wallet.
Here's a point.... if your purchase never shows up in a wallet, this may be your problem.

I assumed the address I gave Simplex was unique to my BCH cash wallet and went through Bitcoin.com's help procedure to try to recover the coin in that address into a newly created BTC wallet. But, as noted above, their procedure wouldn't let me create a new wallet using the Key from my existing Wallet.

In my reading I discovered what I should have known, that my wallet contains two sub wallets, one for BCH and one for BTC. On a hunch, I went to my BTC sub wallet and added a couple of addresses. Sure enough, one of the new addresses that popped up in my BTC sub wallet was the one I gave from the BCH sub wallet. I hit "scan" and there it was - my BTC purchase popped into my BTC wallet.

Hope this helps someone.

Bitcoin Core (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) are two entirely separate cryptocurrencies and they operate on two entirely separate blockchains.

If you've sent Bitcoin (BTC) to your Bitcoin Cash (BCH, or sometimes known as BCC) address what you've really done is send Bitcoin to a Bitcoin address which is identical to your Bitcoin Cash address. Two blockchains, same keys.

You can do the following to retrieve your BTC from your BCH wallet:

1) Press home in bottom left

2) Press the + sign on the right of "Bitcoin Core (BTC) wallets"

3) Create personal wallet. Enter a name for the wallet, for example "BTC recovery wallet"

4) Turn on Bitcoin Core (BTC)

Again although you can manage both Bitcoin Core (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) wallets in your Bitcoin.com wallet app you must not send BTC to a BCH address and vice-versa.

Vise versa, if you've sent Bitcoin Cash (BCH) to your Bitcoin (BTC) address please use the following steps:

To retrieve your BCH from your BTC wallet please follow the below instructions:

1. Press home in bottom left

2. Press the + sign on the right of "Bitcoin Cash Wallets"

3. Press 'New personal wallet'. Enter a name for the wallet, for example "BCH recovery wallet"

4. Make sure that BCH is selected

5. Show advanced options

6. Change “Random” to “Specify Recovery Phrase”

7. Type your BTC wallet's recovery phrase (you can get it from Settings > [Name of your BTC wallet] > Backup)

8. Make sure "Single address wallet” are turned OFF. You don't need to change the derivation path.

9. Create wallet

10. Go to Settings > [BCH recovery wallet] > More Options > Wallet Addresses

11. Tap 'Unused Addresses' at least 20 times or until you get an "Empty addresses limit reached" message

12. Tap 'Scan addresses for funds'

13. Your BCH will now appear in your BCH recovery wallet.

Again, although you can manage both Bitcoin Legacy (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) wallets in your Bitcoin.com wallet app, you must not send BTC to a BCH address and vice-versa.

Hello all,

I'm new here. As expected, I send my BTC to my BCH wallet too. :D

It was 28th november (6 days ago) i transferred my bitcoins.

When i realise my mistake, tried to back up my wallet. There was no error when i recover wallet. But when i try to add some new addresses a problem occured. The app said "empty addresses limit reached. new addresses cannot be generated" and none of that 20 addresses was the same of my BCH address. so, i couldn't get my BTC.
I still can't refresh theese addresses....

I text technical support team but they couldn't solve the problem. I don't know what to do now.

Could you please please please show me the way to save my BTCs?

Thank you...
