Have been hacked

Sun Nov 12, 2017 6:35 pm

I had my PayPal account hacked and it was used to buy Bitcoin. Is it possible to track the hacker by their Bitcoin account number which I have from the seller of the Bitcoin?

Just trying to get my money back really.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks, Daniel.

By "Bitcoin account number" do you mean a Bitcoin address?

If your Paypal account was hacked, you should open a support ticket with them and request them to reverse the transaction. From what I understand Paypal usually sides with the buyer instead of the seller, so if you open a dispute Paypal should hopefully refund you the money.

But as far as tracking someone from their Bitcoin address - sure, you could see where they send the money and how they spend it. But it'll be difficult to associate this with a real name unless they've been silly and posted the same address online somewhere associated with one of their accounts.

OK, thanks for the reply. I am confident I will get my money back from PayPal but I kind of wanted to get the person who hacked me but that looks unlikely now. Shame then.
