Step by step Bitcoin investing

Sun Nov 12, 2017 7:27 am

I am from Melbourne Australia and looking for suitable information for someone living in Australia.
So much information here I am a little confused on how to even begin. I am obviously a complete newbie.
I just simply want to buy Bitcoin, it seems there are lots of currencies that sound like Bitcoin but are different or slightly different. Is there one which is the common one?
I am still trying to understand how to buy Bitcoin?
- Do I set up a wallet first? Where do I do this and how do I know if the wallet is secure and reputable?
- Then how do I buy Bitcoin as an Australian resident? What is a reputable site to buy from?
- Once I buy, how does the Bitcoin get to my wallet?
So many questions but i do appreciate everyone's time. ;)

Anecdotally, I've got mates in Australia who use both Coinjar (for deposits/withdrawals) and Coinbase (for deposits only; withdrawals not supported in Australia). Haven't heard any complaints about either of these two.

Some of the bigger international exchanges also allow Australians to trade, but you'd need to convert your AUD into USD or EUR first. CoinJar is one of the local companies that allows you to hold an AUD balance and transact directly from this.
