A sneak peek at the new Blockchain HD wallet

Thu Dec 03, 2015 11:11 pm

Blockchain.info is working on a new bitcoin wallet, and we had the opportunity to get an exclusive look at the new wallet which is currently in alpha invite only stage. Blockchain, which is the leading wallet and blockchain explorer service provider in the space, has been working on a new and improved wallet completely revamping their current wallet. From what we see, there is a big focus on a clean user experience and security.

I received an invite to be an alpha tester not long ago. During the process of creating my wallet, they said not to send more then 0.05[btc] to the wallet and to not send more [btc] then what I can afford to lose (it is too bad they did not have a testnet version).

Unfortunately BC.I does have somewhat of a reputation of security (and other) practices that results in the loss of their customer funds. I think a good portion of this is the fact that private keys need to be generated on the customer's computer, encrypted then transmitted to BC.I and that sometimes the encrypted private keys may not make it there, resulting in potentially having zero backups of a private key and the customer loosing access to their funds once they logout of their wallet. A deterministic wallet would largely fix this issue.
Have fun, send me a tip 136djiDtVHKq8KLnJQnCRJL2TydpGgnyyT

Seems like a no-brainer.

I don't know that I would agree with this completely. BC.I has had some hacks in which BTC were stolen, but I don't know that any customers damaged by this and I don't know that the amounts were substantial. I thought BC.I compensated all parties???

I believe that customer funds have always been reimbursed when there were instances of theft that was allowed by BC.I, however I am not so certain about times when people lost [btc] because private keys were not saved on their servers due to connectivity issues, ect

I think that's mostly precautionary language with any alpha software. It's still in testing so there are bound to be some bugs. Once it's live globally, that's another story. :)

It would be nice if they supported the Trezor eventually.
