Trezor is thinking of not providing wallet support for Segwit2X!

Mon Nov 06, 2017 1:08 pm

A spokeseman for Trezor initially said this morning that Trezor would NOT provide wallet support for Segwit2x -- just a way for people to split their coins to send their Segwit2X coins to an exchange.

They've since done some damage control -- saying they're considering offering a Segwit2X wallet, but aren't sure yet and haven't released any official statement on it.

It's a bit funny that BTC.com, Ledger, Blockchain.info can all provide safe and secure support for Segwit2X users and the developers in Trezor can't figure out a way. Not sure what to make of this.

I sure hope by the time official word comes around they will have decided to provide a Segwit2X wallet much like they are providing support for Bitcoin Cash. Sheeesh. Makes one uneasy when a hardware wallet seems like they are playing cute political games every day.

Update: Latest info on reddit on the Trezor Segwit2X drama (why does everything with Trezor have to be so drama-filled these days?)

Trezor has released a statement on Segwit2X, saying they will now fully support both the Segwit1X and the Segwit2X coins.
TREZOR device supports both BTC and B2X.
The TREZOR device supports both BTC and B2X. For both, new and legacy addresses will be supported.
Will TREZOR Wallet (web-interface) support B2X?
B2X will be listed in TREZOR Beta Wallet as a separate wallet. However, you need to split your coins, according to our guide, before your coins are available there.

Do I need to have my bitcoins on a specific account pre-fork?
You can hold your bitcoins on either new (SegWit) or legacy accounts.

Why is the lack of replay protection dangerous?
Without replay protection, if you spend coins on one chain, the transaction could be “replayed” on the other chain, since the transaction is valid on both BTC and B2X, causing you to spend both coins. Therefore, you will first have to split the coins into different addresses.

Will B2X have different addresses?
B2X will use the same address format as Bitcoin. However, TREZOR will generate B2X addresses with a different derivation path. When transacting, please make sure you are sending the right coins to the correct chain.
