Bitcoin wallet key

Hi Guys, to access the BIP32 extended key for my bitcoin wallet, do I need to continually enter a different phrase by clicking the new phrase key. It seems that when I paste my existing phrase either nothing comes up in the extended key section or it doesn't' change from the previous key that is already there. Appreciate your help to a newcomer. Cheers, Brian
