I don't have any data to support this but it seems like a lot of people who are into Bitcoin are also into cannabis and cannabis-related products.

Before I go any further here I want to state that I don't, nor have I ever, used cannabis or anything cannabis related.

I've been noticing that it seems like (although I don't have data or numbers) I've read a lot of BItcoin-related posts and articles (not specifically just here at Bitcoin.com but rather just everywhere it seems) which advocate the use of cannabis in some form or another.

I don't really care much about the subject (i.e., cannabis). I'm mostly indifferent to the subject.

However, the subject just keeps popping up again, and again, and tonight I read an article over at Steemit (I'll credit the author and cite their article in just a moment) which indicates that they (the poster at Steemit) is using cannabis oils to cure skin cancer.

Apparently their uncle has skin cancer. The poster has even included videos (their own videos, not just some stuff found online) which includes some history regarding their uncle, his skin cancer and past surgeries.

The video also includes footage of the their uncle's skin cancer and what appears to be the cancer dissipating after treatment with what they indicate is cannabis oils.

I left them short message at Steemit conveying that I'm very sorry to hear that their uncle has skin cancer and that I'm hoping that the treatments will be successful and that their uncle will be free of the cancer.

I also let them know that I've never used cannabis oil (nor have I used cannabis itself in any form) myself but that I do of course advocate discovering a cure(s) for cancer and that if their treatment is working then I wish them the very best.

Here's the article:

I think for the most part it's because of the unusual regulatory setup exclusive to the US right now.

Cannabis is legal for medical and recreational use in several states. However it is still illegal to sell and possess federally. This means that banks and credit card companies who operate nationwide are wary of (or even prohibited from) servicing stores that sell recreational and medical marijuana.

It's dangerous for these shops to operate using 100% cash, because it makes them an attractive target for thieves and burglars.

By using Bitcoin, these stores and be their own bank safely, so it's being adopted in the industry very widely.

I'm making a wild guess, I believe it's because people into cryptocurrencies are still are small (but growing rapidly) crowd of relatively open minded people, who are not interested into what society in general thinks is good or not. That being said, there's a cannabis gold rush going on at the moment and a lot of people talk about it everywhere, not only in cryptocurrency-land. Snake-oil salesmen have joined as well, offering their oils and what not. Cannabis most likely has positive health effects, but there's a tendency to exaggerate and to take things out of context by some at the moment.
