Bitcoin.com Mobile Wallet Bug Funds LOST

Thu Oct 12, 2017 11:26 am

So this happened to me yesterday, I was selling to someone using a Bitcoin.com wallet and they told me the address to send to. I sent the funds, and told them to confirm they had received the fund after 1 confirmation. They had accidentally hit 'Generate New Address' near the Receive section, and now their balance shows 0.00 BTC. They must have hit Generate accidentally after giving me the wallet address. So where are these funds? Does the wallet hold the unused private keys of all the wallets it has generated? I'm screwed because I couldn't call the police on this person, but now my funds are gone. All 9k of them.

How can I import this bitcoin.com wallet into another app to see if it can actually recover the private key funds? Btc.com? Copay? BitPay?

Someone please help and you will be generously rewarded.

Okay, here's something you need to know. If you already send bitcoin to another wallet, that transaction is not reversible and cannot be cancelled or disturbed BY ANY MEAN. It WILL arrive at the destination wallet, sooner or later

So if you just send your bitcoin to Wallet A and then the receiver say they accidentally hit "Generate New Address" so now they also have Wallet B, the Wallet A will not be gone, it still exists and ready to receive your bitcoin.

Two possibilities, maybe your fund is still pending, waiting for confirmation (because it takes more than one confirmation to receive a fund) or the person lied to you, saying they have not receive the fund when in fact they already got it.

That's what I thought guys, I assumed you could hit 'Generate New Address' as many times as you would want, and still be able to send to the original Wallet Address that was generated the first time.

Here's a TX ID of the original funds being sent, it was for 1.506 BTC: https://blockchain.info/tx/5058e6597aeb ... 81053e5f05

Hi there,

We do not control the private keys to your wallet (as noted during wallet setup, these are generated and stored solely on your device) so we are unable to assist with moving any funds to or from any wallet, however if you cannot see the funds in your Bitcoin.com wallet (and they were definitely sent) please do the following:

Go to Settings -> Your Wallet -> More Options -> Transaction History -> Clear cache
Go to Settings -> Your Wallet -> More Options -> Wallet Addresses -> Tap 'Unused Addresses' 20 times until you see the message "Empty addresses limit reached", then tap 'Scan addresses for funds'

The funds should now show up on your wallet homepage.

Just to note also that all previous addresses remain valid and can continue to accept payments. The address changes each time you receive a payment in order to further increase the privacy and security of your transactions, however all previous addresses can still be used to receive payment.

Thanks for the tips, still no dice.

I don't know if it's a much deeper problem, but I cannot see the wallet address that I sent the funds to when it shows all 'unused addresses'.

If Bitcoin.com has a support team, I would be willing to give my seed phrase, because at this point I'm clueless as to how to recover the funds.

If after generating all unused addresses you go to 'View all addresses' you should be able to see the addresses with funds in them. If you do not, this means that the address used to receive the funds is not part of your Bitcoin.com wallet and the funds were sent elsewhere.

We do have a wallet support team at wallet@bitcoin.com and you can email them for support but please do not share your wallet seed with anyone. Anybody with access to your wallet seed phrase will be able to take control of any funds currently in your wallet, or sent to it in future.

Thanks for all the help. I reached out to their email support, so I'll see if they know of anything else beyond what you've shared.

Unfortunately I cannot see the wallet address in the unused address, or all addresses for that matter, and I'm hoping there was some other issue that can be resolved.

I think there was a misunderstanding here. If I get this right, you were complaining about how the fund that you sent did not reach the destination wallet, correct? BUT, that suggestion by Fremont was how to check your own wallets, so OF COURSE you can't see the wallet that you sent your funds to, because it was NOT your wallet, it was the other person's wallet.

To reiterate, this is NOT a bug and your fund is NOT lost.

Here, take a look at this, this is the record of your transaction :

https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/tx/505 ... 1053e5f05/

You can see that it already has 6+ confirmations and the fund was ALREADY RECEIVED by the destination wallet one day ago. I almost 99% sure that your friend already have his money. So if he still insists otherwise, ask him to prove it, ask him to show you his wallet balance. Good luck.

My apologies for misreading the situation, it seems that Psazum is correct!

You were sending funds, not receiving them. The rest of the information in Psazum's post above is also correct.
