Howdy,
So I've got bitcoin on Coinbase.com, and have created a Paper Wallet through bit address.com. I've been trying to register my Paper Wallet on Blockchain.com but I can't seem to use the site, as when I click on any of the links on the left, the right side or centre stay's blank ?
I figure I have to register my Paper Wallet with Blockchain, then somehow input my Paper Wallet into Coinbase.com to allow Blockchain.com to record Coinbase sending my Bitcoin to my Paper Wallet. Is this correct folks.
Hi,
There is no registration. If you have a bitcoin address (based on what you've stated you generated a bitcoin address at
bitaddress.org (you wrote .com but you probably meant .org)
When you lookup your address on a block explorer (e.g., please try
explorer.bitcoin.com or
blockchain.com/explorer are you using the public key (public address) or are you using the private key?
Please DO NOT use the private key. You should search for the public address.
Please never share your private key(s) (or backup phrase / mnemonic / seed words) with anyone. Moreover, when adding them to a wallet application please make sure to exercise due diligence (is the wallet app safe and secure?).
In any event, you can add addresses (and private keys if you want to send transactions from the addresses) which were generated outside of the Blockchain.com (previously Blockchain.info) wallet to the Blockchain.com (previously Blockchain.info) wallet. For instructions please see:
blockchain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/207746403-Wallets-Addresses
In regard to an account at Coinbase.com (a custodial account, not exactly the same thing as a wallet) I don't believe you can add addresses (other than generating new addresses within your account).
If you need additional help, or disagree with anything stated in the foregoing, please post another comment below.
In any event, a paper wallet is meant for offline storage or for transferring bitcoins offline (e.g., gift). Adding the address (and / or the private key) to online account or a software wallet defeats the purpose of the paper wallet (unless you ready to use the bitcoins in a transaction).
