Re: Accenting BitCoins

Takealot.com uses payfast as a payment processor, and payfast processes bitcoins. There are several other places that use payfast, so there are actually quite a few bitcoin accepting merchants in SA, even if it is indirectly. If people want to buy some physical bitcoins (eg casascius coins), you're...

Re: So what does everyone think of Whats app's Instant billion people onboarded into encryption?

I was extremely sceptical when I began to see those notifications on my chats. I looked into it and found out about the relationship - https://whispersystems.org/blog/whatsapp-complete/ WhatsApp may have feared losing market share due to encryption and the popularity of it. I know we use it as life ...

Re: So what does everyone think of Whats app's Instant billion people onboarded into encryption?

I've been using Signal by Open Whisper Systems for a while now and apparently WhatsApp is using their system, so I think it's legit.

If it wasn't, Open Whisper Systems would have something to say about that methinks.

Satoshi decided the value. Demand for Bitcoin increased the value to where it is today. How did Satoshi decide on the value? I have this burning desire to understand this. Where does BitCoin get its value from?

Hello all! Ok. This may sound like a stupid question to some but no question is a stupid question. I am in South Africa and I monitor the BitCoin exchange rate in USD and ZAR (South African Rand). Firstly, is BitCoin valued individually against all currencies or just the USD? For example: 1 Btc = 40...

Re: Business idea in South Africa

In South Africa, in my opinion, malls and high feet traffic areas are best for ATM machines. We have had issues with ATM bombings and theft, but the security in South Africa with ATMs has adapted rather well. I agree though. Security of the cash is a big one but there are many services in South Afri...

Record address movement in the blockchain

It seems that BitX is doing what I am talking about. By the looks of it, you can pay South African bank accounts with BitCoin and it converts the funds automatically. Checking it out more.

Re: Buy Bitcoin with my local currency

I must be honest, my knowledge on mining is very limited and reading and seeing people spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to power the machines to break even, and of course, be affected by the price of BitCoin, it put that option out of my mind. That's for me anyway. Again, I haven't done a l...

Re: Buy Bitcoin with my local currency

My understanding is the mining is a missed opportunity, but I may be wrong. It sounds like the situation in Angola is not good at all all round. I would look at selling an online service or product and accept bitcoins in order to acquire if you can't in Angola. You can trade and buy and sell bitcoin...

Re: Buy Bitcoin with my local currency

Localbitcoins.com was the starting point for me.

I am also spreading the word of BitCoin getting friends family and colleagues to get their wallets and trade with them.

What do you mean the limits are being lowered? Are they presenting transactions?

Re: Increase the block size now!

I would think there has to be an 'organic' increase. For example, if a block size reaches 1mb, it would have to have the ability to increase on its own as and when it's needed. It would be good to have the size increase to a capacity that 'is needed for that block' instead of a general increase of 1...
