Re: I'm OgNasty, Treasurer at bitcointalk.org. Ask me anything!

I am somewhat surprised that no one has asked anything about this yet.

Can you describe the process you use to create your NastyFans physical bitcoins? As well as the process of engraving the entire Bitcoin address on each and every coin that you mint? I won one of your silver 1oz coins in an auction from you several months ago, and I have to admit that it is a very nice coin.

I have noticed that you (somewhat) recently started selling 2 oz gold highlighted (gild?) preorder coins. What are your plans as far as additional designs for your NastyFans physical coins?

You had sold me an ungraded casacius tenth that was later sent to ANACS and came back as MS68. Not long after that a large number of casascius coins were showing up for sale that were graded MS68, MS69 and even MS70. I have also noticed that graded casascius coins have generally been declining in price as of recently. What are your thought on this new wave of higher grades showing up? Do you have any of your casascius coins graded, and if so have you sent any of them in for regrading?

This is somewhat off topic from my above, questions.

You mentioned above that you both do not support XT and that you support larger block sizes. What is your opinion on BIP101? on BIP100?

Do you see any harm in raising the max block size earlier then might be necessary?
The process to create my NastyFans Minted Seats is pretty straight forward. I have a designer that I work with to create the designs and make sure they are in the proper format for the mint. I had custom tamper proof holograms made and I use an engraver to engrave the vanity keys on them. It takes me a few months to generate all of the vanity keys necessary for each annual release, and I have a dedicated machine running vanitygen 24/7.

My plans for additional designs are just ideas at this time. Several members want me to do a gold coin next year, which I think would be extremely expensive given our structure of donating a large amount of the sales revenue to NastyFans. However, if the demand is there, it looks like it is quite possible that a year from now we will be discussing my 2oz solid gold NastyFans Minted Seats. If that were the case, I have an idea to release a new type of silver coin that might 1) expand on the customer base, 2) cost significantly less than a 2oz gold coin, 3) provide an additional more customized option than the Minted Seats.

My guess as to why we are seeing higher rated coins coming out lately is that a few members bought rolls of Casascius Coins. I imagine they sold off their lowest rated ones first. Now you're seeing them digging into the only coins they have left to sell, which are probably their best. I sent in a Casascius Coin to be graded just to go through the process. Honestly, I don't like the cases that graded coins come in, and I prefer my coins remain ungraded because I like they way they look in my collection.

The only altcoin I support is Namecoin. I don't have a strong opinion on any of the BIPs. I have opinions, like thinking that miners should be the ones to decide the block limits.

The harm in raising the max block size early is 2 parts in my opinion. 1) It wastes resources. 2) It doesn't allow the free market to be able to find a suitable transaction fee. One day miners will have to support this network with nothing but their tx fees, yet it seems that developers want to do all they can to make these fees as low as possible. I understand that low fees is a huge draw to Bitcoin, but at some point when you start a burger stand, you stop competing with McDonalds' pricing to get customers and start advertising how much better your burger is.

Hi OgNasty

Would you say most donations came from early adopters or are there no way to determine that?

What does the boss say, about you doing a AMA on a rival forum?

Interesting discussion, many thanks. :D
You can look at the donators list for yourself here. It does appear to be mostly early adopters and large businesses.

I asked theymos for his opinion prior to agreeing to participate in this AMA. Theymos is actually a very reasonable individual who is motivated only by doing what is best for Bitcoin. He is also a large fan of decentralization, and I imagine he wants to see this new forum succeed for the sake of Bitcoin. XP obviously isn't the way forward, but once this debate is behind us, it will be nice to have multiple outlets for discussing Bitcoin.
