Dash is a fascinating cryptocurrency with a unique governance structure and several capabilities beyond what Bitcoin can provide. But can you use it to pay your bills?
The answer is yes. According to Jan Goslicki, COO of international bill-paying service Bitwala, it is possible:
“YES. YOU CAN USE ANY MAJOR CRYPTOCURRENCY LIKE DASH TO PAY YOUR BILLS, TRANSFER MONEY INTERNATIONALLY AND TOP UP YOUR BITWALA DEBIT CARD.”
Bitwala is a service that allows customers to pay their bills with cryptocurrency by acting as a middleman, paying the bill while accepting the Bitcoin for themselves. They also provide a Bitcoin-powered bank transfer service and a Bitcoin debit card.
Non-Bitcoin coins Accepted Through A Partnership With ShapeShift
As Jeff Gallas, Community Manager for Bitwala, explains, a strategic partnership with ShapeShift allows users around the world to pay their bills with a wide variety of cryptocurrencies.
“Through our integration with Shapeshift, Bitwala can currently accept 40+ cryptocurrencies, including Ether, Litecoin and Dash. All these cryptocurrencies can be used to pay international bills…”
Gallas further explains how the process works for accepting non-Bitcoin cryptocurrencies:
“After you have entered the details of your transaction, you are asked to pay with Bitcoins. In this step, you can also choose to pay with altcoins. Shapeshift then converts the altcoin to Bitcoin and pays Bitwala the Bitcoin.”
Though this process is not direct, popular demand may lead to Bitwala accepting other cryptocurrencies directly at some point down the road, according to Gallas:
“We have been asked to directly accept altcoins like Dash, but right now that’s not feasible yet. However, we’d like to do that in the future for highly requested and used cryptocurrencies.”
A Recent String of Adoption and Progress For Dash
Good news surrounding dash keeps rolling in over the last few weeks. In addition to a significant price rally, the cryptocurrency has scored a series of gains in adoption. The Jaxx multi-platform multi-coin wallet recently integrated with Dash, and the Mycelium wallet announced a similar integration slated for release in October. This, combined with BlockPay’s announcement of a point of sale system that accepts all major cryptocurrencies and transfers them into cash in the merchant’s bank, will significantly simplify pitching Dash to businesses and consumers.
