Slush mining pool supports Bitcoin Classic

Fri Jan 22, 2016 2:44 am

Slush's mining pool now also publicly supports Bitcoin Classic. It seems extremely likely now that a block size increase to 2 MB will be happening.
Support for Bitcoin Classic (#517)
We are getting near super-majority consensus for Bitcoin Classic. With a super majority a clean, hard fork to the 2 MT block size limit will be possible, solving the issues with delays in transactions and increasing fees. Bitcoin became popular as a vehicle to transfer funds to any other user anywhere in the world quickly and free or virtually free of cost. Let's protect that quality until Bitcoin achieves widespread adoption worldwide. Eventually fees should become part of the equation, but if they enter too quickly, the attraction to new users might fade and Bitcoin will not be as strong. Let's support Classic!

iam in favour of 2MB but to stay with core...unfortunately that wont happen as we all know. but the alternative is Classic with no real dev support and no real roadmap. additionaly: what will be their modell to find consensus?

at the moment iam ok with core.

I don't think classic is a threat to bitcoin at all. Sure they may not have the same amount and experience of developers as core, but core quite simply refuses to act in the way that customers demand.

I hope and expect core to also go with 2 mb blocks. Keep it one chain with two or more clients. You and I can choose different clients and still be on the same network.

Of course if they were not trolling about changing the pow I can see core accepting 2mb but if they were serious about that, then I no longer have any faith in them. But let's assume that luke was having a bit of fun making a point.

Hope the year or so this increase buys will result in SegWit being completed and implemented.

Also... if SegWit works as advertised then miners could easily soft fork back to 1 mb from the 2 hard ceiling. Even unlimited blocks would not do anything to stop this.
