Silk Road-Co-Administrator Loses Extradition Appeal

Thu Mar 09, 2017 11:56 am

It is with very sad heart that i feel i must write this post to help bring awareness to another human being and member of this forum that has basically been kidnapped from his home country only to be taken half way across the world for doing nothing more than pushing a few keys on his keyboard, he did not sell any drugs at all and nor is he being accused of this.

The member i am talking about is garydavisirl-u2588/, it was alleged in court that he was the administrator "Libertas" on the Silk Road marketplace, he was nice enough to sign up here for awhile to voice his opinions on a couple of topics and it is sad to see any member leave the community here, especially under these unfortunate circumstances.
We don't know how much truth this story has to it at this stage and probably will never know the full truth if the Ross Ulbricht trial was anything to go by, massive corruption and still many many unanswered questions but i just hope that Gary is doing alright at this point.

The main reason Gary was appealing his deportation to the USA since 2014 is that he needs medical care that the prisons in America just do not provide, his medical problems will only worsen further as he is ripped away from his family support and homeland and i hate to think what he is already going through.

Some of you might say he did the crime so he should do the time but i just want you to think of a couple of things.
First of all remember that there has been no main trial yet and everyone has a right of innocent until proven guilty, also take into account that all of the crimes he has been charged with a non violent victimless crimes. All he basically did was the same job as one of the admins or even myself on this forum but on Silk Road.
No country should have the right to take a citizen away from him his home country and family support to be deported to a foreign land, i fear what might happen to his mental health if not being able to access the care and support he needs.

The Silk Road servers were not based in the US as far as i know so what gives that country the right to act like the worlds super cops and just walk into another country and take who they like - this would have started wars in the old days.
If he had committed a major crime like murder in the US then fled i could understand why they would want to get him back but this case if true was committed from the bedroom of a house in Ireland.

Anyway have a read of the articles below and feel free to post your thoughts on the case as you see it.

America is an imperialist empire which simply does not respect the sovereignty of other nations. Almost always, the US can extradite anyone they want from anywhere by strong-arming the target country. Russia or China or Cuba maybe being the only exceptions.

That said, it's really sad because if he really does have medical problems then there is a good chance the American prison system could, quite literally, kill him.

It's wrong on so many levels.

But nothing will change when it comes to the drug war without major pushback from the american people (violent protests involving millions of people)

One of the reasons his appeal on the extradition order took so long was because he and his defence team spent a lot of time looking into every aspect of what medical help could be provided for his condition if deported to a US jail, basically they don't offer anything near to what he needs and yet they still deported him.

I just hope Gary is staying strong and at least being allowed to contact his family on a regular basis.

For those who missed the news, the high court of the EU has agreed to hear Gary's appeal. Hopefully he will not be deported.

Has a fund been setup to assist with his defense costs?

Not that i know of and with all these appeal trials he has to go through it couldn't be cheap.

Governments don't care how much money the trials and appeals will cost the individuals charged and in most cases these costs have to be passed on to the family since the accused is often locked up before any trial and cannot work to earn money themselves.
What has happened in this case so far goes against everything bitcoin.com stands for so i am sure the team would be happy to see something of that nature set up. If someone wants to setup a website and address for donations then i am sure we can promote it with a news story and find a family members to get the money to if needed.

If anyone knows the family it might be a good idea to get their permission first, some may not want the help for whatever reasons. I will try look for an email address to make contact if anyone wants to proceed with the site.

I think they are hoping to win the extradition battle quietly.
If he does end up being extradited, that is likely the right time to make a lot of noise.

Quietly sounds like the right way to do it. Last thing they need is a bunch of misinformed news articles for the general public to assume is the truth.

I watched Deep Web again recently and have since been recommending it to friends and family, hopefully it brings some awareness to the fact that if the government wants to make someone an enemy, they will and at any cost.
