Bye Bye, the ultra-expensive Crystal Blockchain and Chainalysis subscriptions. The users of Ethereum are now can use the ETH primary blockchain scanner to check the coins regarding the illicit actions of previous owners. The new surveillance engine rolled out by Etherscan is marking the coins as 'tainted'.
Key points:

Etherscan.io rolls out the engine called ETHProtect which allows checking the illegal funds origin and status.

The engine does what Chainalysis and Crystal offer for at least $1500/month – for free.

The trick works only with Ethereum, don't try to 'check' other cryptos.

Etherscan admins are sure that tainted coins going away from the Ethereum markets is a good thing.

Not sure how many harms this can cause to Ethereum's fungibility and privacy levels. Antonopoulos previous claims about fungibility hit made to Bitcoin by Crystal/Chinalysis comes to mind. As well as his notion that tracking software will kill Bitcoin, paving the way for other privacy coins, in case Core developers won't act.
