Blockchain.info Help Newb

Wed May 24, 2017 5:09 pm

Hi,

I am quite new to blockchain, bitcoin, and other alts. I have had some success using Bittylicious in the UK and have funded my blockchain.info wallet with some bitcoin.

However when i have come to transfer between the Mist wallet, or Kraken, or Poloniex from the Blckchain.info wallet it sticks on pending. Now i made the mistake of twice using a low fee. which i thought (from reading) that it should drop out of the mempool after a few days. it did and then tried to resend? i am very confused now...

Also i have tried to send some more bitcoin using the advanced feature of the wallet to set a miner fee above the average. which i thought would speed up the transaction - again, this has been stuck on pending now?

I understand i am new and this is a sharp and steep learning curve but i cant seem to understand where i am actually going wrong - other than using a poor software wallet?!?!?

Thanks for reading and if anyone has any advice id take it!

T

So the blockchain.info wallet has as dynamic fee estimation coded into the wallet which should help get your transaction confirmed quickly BUT because the Bitcoin blockchain has been full (due to an unnecessary block size limiting total transactions allowed per second) many transactions probably like yours don't have enough fee to confirm quickly. You can try this tool, it's a transaction fee accelerator which if you input your transaction ID it will help get it mined and confirmed faster: https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/

Hi thanks for the reply, I know of the accelerators but they dont seem to have capacity! i guess you need some luck to get onto the block?!

I am wondering if there is an underlying problem with the wallet?!

Thnks.

The problem is accelerators are also experiencing capacity problems because they too can only do so much. The wallet is fine. You can always pay a higher fee (next time) but if everyone starts paying higher fees them only the elite super-rich win.

I think what i am worried about is that the transactions are getting stuck? Even with the higher fee - I cant seem to get my bitcoin out of the wallet and use the bitcoin. And also one of the transactions I did last week seems to have dropped out of the mempool, and was back in the wallet, then when i signed in again it said sent?! have you heard of this happening before?!

You can raise the fee amount with the custom send and put whatever fee value you want there. The higher it is the more chance it is of confirming more quickly. Put whatever you think it's worth in there. I think the going rate is around $1.50 to get confirmed in the next block but who knows that could be too little later today or tomorrow. Transactions do fall out of the mempool after two weeks and go back to your wallet for use.
