Bitcoin Unlimited issue

Fri Apr 21, 2017 10:28 pm

Hi. I sent three lots of bitcoins to my Bitcoin unlimited wallet a week ago.
When I open up my app it is still synchronising, even a week later. I presume this is why my balance is at zero when it should not be.

How do I get to these bitcoins?

Thanks

Hello again jpcooling :)

Bitcoin Unlimited is a full node client, which is a program that fully validates transactions and blocks. Almost all full nodes also help the network by accepting transactions and blocks from other full nodes, validating those transactions and blocks, and then relaying them to further full nodes.

This means that your client downloads the entire Bitcoin blockchain in order to fully validate transactions and blocks. Running a full node helps the Bitcoin network, but the trade-off is that you need to download and synchronise the entire Bitcoin blockchain which can take a relatively long time given that it is currently about 112 GB in size.

The only thing you can do (without engaging in slightly more technical measures) is keep Bitcoin Unlimited running until the blockchain has fully synchronised. You may wish to use a lightweight desktop client for day to day Bitcoin transactions, and you can find a list of these on our Wallets page.
