Trading bitcoin in real life - how to stay safe?

Tue May 16, 2017 8:59 am

Hey, some guy on Reddit asked me if I want to exchange my bitcoins for money. We would meet in the real world, somewhere in public place, and make a deal. I'm not sure if it's the way the bitcoin was meant to be traded. Have you ever traded your bitcoins in person? Is it safe?

I would not recommend this. Not saying you will, but you CAN get robbed.

Why not buy from safe and trusted websites instead? Coinbase, Bitfinex.

If you still want to do this though, do it in a public place; preferrably somewhere with security guards.

In a public place it should be safe, many people on localbitcoins do this and over a coffee you could create good trading partnerships for future trades.

If you are the one transferring bitcoins then just make sure you get the cash in your hands before sending the coins to their address, last thing you want is to send a bitcoin or 2 to his phone only to have him run off once you hit send.
