Sent BCH to BTC account on Blockchain. Is there a way for the person to still get the money?

Hello,

So I accidentally sent bitcoin cash to a bitcoin account on Blockchain. Is there a way for the person to get the money if they have control of the account and have the keys? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Aamspark,

You should be able to recover your BCH, however most wallets will have their own unique recovery process, I will leave the instructions for the Bitcoin.com wallet below, if the receiver is using a different wallet, you will have to contact that wallets support team and ask for instructions.

Bitcoin Core (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) are two entirely separate cryptocurrencies and they operate on two entirely separate blockchains. This means that Bitcoin Cash (BCH) sent to an address on the Bitcoin Core (BTC) blockchain will never appear nor be present on the Bitcoin Core blockchain. Because both BTC and BCH can sometimes share a similar address format (Legacy address format), it is possible to accidentally send a Bitcoin Cash (BCH) transaction to a Bitcoin Core (BTC) address, but the funds will only exist on the BCH chain.

Note that in the Bitcoin.com wallet you can set up both a Bitcoin Core (BTC) sub-wallet and a Bitcoin Cash (BCH) sub-wallet.

Please follow the instructions below to retrieve the BCH from your BTC wallet:

Please follow these instructions:

1
Press "Home" in the bottom left

2
Press + sign on the right of "Bitcoin Cash (BCH) wallets"

3
Create personal wallet. Enter a name for the wallet, for example "BCH recovery wallet"

4
Make sure that the "coin" is set to (BCH)

5
Show advanced options

6
Wallet key - Tap on “Random” and change to “Specify Recovery Phrase”

7
Type your BTC wallet's recovery phrase (you can get it from Settings > [Name of your BTC wallet] > Backup)

8
Make sure "Single address wallet” are turned OFF. You don't need to change the derivation path.

9
Create wallet. If you get an error “Error creating wallet: Key already associated with an existing wallet”, continue to step 10 and select your existing BCH wallets.

10
Go to Settings > [BCH recovery wallet] > More Options > Wallet Addresses

11
Tap 'Unused Addresses' at least 20 times / until you get an "Empty addresses limit reached" message

12
Tap 'Scan addresses for funds'

13
Your Bitcoin Cash (BCH) will now appear in your BCH recovery wallet.

If you are using a Bitcoin.com wallet and need any assistance at all, please don't hesitate to contact our support team at wallet@bitcoin.com.
