Unable to receive Bitcoins in Core wallet!

Sat Jul 09, 2016 1:37 pm

I very much hope someone is knowledgeable enough to point me to the right direction and help me locate my Bitcoins which are nowhere to be found:

1. Created a "request payment" in Bitcoin Core and used the payment information address to send coins from my localbitcoins.com account.
2. I deleted the "requested payments" entry in the Bitcoin Core wallet before coins were received.
3. Blockchain.info shows the a "total received" and a "final balance" as well as 99 confirmations so I presume the transaction was concluded.
4. My wallet is fully synced. I restarted it numerous times with the -rescan option and compared the block numbers; both in my wallet's debug window and the last one shown in blockchain.info are identical.
5. Support at localbitcoins.com confirms that the transaction has been sent successfully and confirmed on Blockchain.

Yet, after some 48 hours, the coins haven't been received by my Bitcoin Core wallet, i. e. the balance remains at zero and it shows no recent transactions. Any ideas what the problem could be?

the request actually doesnt matter.

person can send you more or send u less coins, it just generates an adress.

the adress is yours forever and when any coins hit the address - you should see them.

if not - try dumping the keys

Have you checked to be 100% sure the address you told Local Bitcoins to send to are contained in your wallet?
Some viruses wait for a Bitcoin address to be in your clip board and then insert the hacker's address when you paste it.
Often times people don't check to make sure the address that was pasted is the same one that they copied.
Perhaps you told Local Bitcoins to send to an address that is not contained in your Bitcoin Core wallet.

Yes, I did. Tried to import the wallet.dat file to https://blockchain.info/wallet/import-wallet but it doesn't do anything after that and nothing shows up.

Thanks! I tried to import the wallet.dat file in blockchain.info but it isn't working, nothing is showing up.

Thanks! That is exactly the point - since the import of wallet.dat into a new wallet in blockchain isn't working, I presumed that the address is actually not contained in the wallet.

I believe I take pretty good care of my computer and I hope it isn't affected by a virus. I just ran Malwarebytes again and it doesn't show any infection.

If my system is not infected and the attempted import of the wallet into blockchain indicates that the address isn't in the wallet, I assume there is no way in the world to "retrieve" the address?

You can use the command line interface:
https://wiki.bitcoin.com/w/Original_Bit ... Calls_list

Code: Select all

Bitcoin-cli dumpprivkey <bitcoinaddress>
Then import the private key to another wallet.

I'm guessing your wallet doesn't have the private keys for the address you want, and you accidentally instructed Local Bitcoins to send the Bitcoins to someone else.

May I ask why were you in such a hurry to do that?

I think the address from your core maybe wasn't copied, you had some other address in the clipboard and you sent bitcoins there.

Try to dump the privatekey if you dumped successfully you can control your bitcoins else without private key you can't use your bitcoins

Thanks for the tip! I tried it but get the response that "private key for address...is not known" so that probably supports your theory that the wallet doesn't have the private keys that I am looking for

Call it sheer stupidity! I am quite sure it was the right address, I copied-and-pasted only this one. Thanks for your help!
