Thank you for the response. I have contacted
wallet@bitcoin.com twice over the last couple of weeks but never received a reply. What would I do if the BCH wallet was accidentally deleted?
You're welcome and sorry to read that you haven't heard back from support in two weeks.
If you get the error at step #9 that means that you already have an existing BCH wallet which contains the key.
If you then accidentally deleted the existing BCH wallet please conduct the steps again (i.e.,
https://walletsupport.bitcoin.com/artic ... btc-wallet ) which will create a new (aka recovery wallet) BCH wallet.
If you need the 12 word backup phrase (to create the BCH wallet) you'll need to get from your BTC wallet.
(If you need to get the 12 words go to Settings, then select the BTC wallet, then select "Backup," make sure that nobody else can see your screen, and tap "Got it" , then your 12 word recovery phrase will be displayed reading from left to right, top to bottom. Write down the words on a sturdy piece of paper. You don't want to go to access your backup a year down the road only to find that the paper has smudged and you can't read the phrase.)
Essentially there are two scenarios:
(1) You already have a BCH wallet which contains the private key (so you get the error) and all that you need to do is generated more addresses in the existing BCH wallet for your funds to show up
(2) The key is not already in your BCH wallet so the BTC private key needs to be imported into a new (aka recovery wallet) BCH wallet for your funds to show up.
Those are the only only two scenarios.
