electrum ---> doesn't start anymore. Here's the output

Mon Feb 20, 2017 10:26 pm

Hey I am not sure if I am in the correct subforum. If not, please move it to the correct subforum.

I used electrum as wallet. I did a big mistake, cause I didn't write down the seed to recover.

Now, I am usind Kali linux, electrum always worked. But then I installed w3af via "pip" and since then, electrum doesnt start anymore.

running "sudo electrum" gives me following output:
tuxy@kali:~$ sudo electrum
[sudo] Passwort für tuxy:

tuxy@kali:~$

What could have gone wrong? please help me - I have about 300 € in my wallet. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
I am willing to give the person who helps me getting electrum running again, 100 € ....

So, please help me, if you can.

thanks a lot!!

What version of electrum your trying to to run?
If its the latest one try this

sudo apt-get install python-qt4 python-pip

sudo pip install https://download.electrum.org/2.7.18/Electrum-2.7.18.tar.gz

sudo apt-get install ca-certificates

sudo pip install https://download.electrum.org/2.7.18/Electrum-2.7.18.tar.gz --upgrade

If this works let me know and you can send the tip here 18GLWKEbGunnGGxi54TtgUht9syDD61zJi

THank you for answering so fast!

I dont know exactly which version... one of the newest I guess (it was installed max. 2-4 weeks ago). Is there a way to find out?

edit:
apt-get install electrum
There is already the latest version installed (2.7.9-1).

And sure, If it works, I ll release 100€ to your address...better pay 100 and have 200€ before losing all 300€ :)

So, again, your solution wont deinstall electrum? because it includes an installation of electrum....

thanks...

p.s:
this would reinstall my electrum... right? then the money is gone, I guess...

I am in discussion with GreenBits , I mean the real GreenBits on bitcointalk, not this imposter.
He has said publicaly that he does not want this imposter here using his name "GreenBits".
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1785972.40

I thought this forum reserved taken names for the rightful person?
Are all the mods here going to sit bach and watch this imposter scam?
(Fremont thinks he has every right, i hope Bitkilo is more wise, as he verified this account)

Whenever an imposter says " I have some solution sent to you via pm" it usually means he is asking for private details.

I don't see that as trolling and I can see why rizzlarolla warned the user to be careful.
I have to ask the same question myself- why didn't you just post the information you had for the OP?

Okay this is the message that I sent to him.
I copy paste that
You can confirm to the OP
Hello if you have your wallet file follow this method that I found.
I copy paste it o make it more understandable.

Note : wallet file name that I talking about something like electrum.dat or default_wallet and you must know your password that you used

1. Open that file using text editor (with search function but this is optional )
2.Look the world says :

Code: Select all

'seed': '<some long string of letters and numbers ending in equal signs>',
3.take the string of letters and numbers between the ' ' single quotations. and copy it somewhere readily available. (don't worry, those letters are encrypted, so you won't be too compromised)
4.Open your working electrum from another laptop or pc
5.In the console type the following:

Code: Select all

import aes
Then enter it.
6.Type in console

Code: Select all

from electrum import wallet
Then enter it.
7.Let's say your encryped seed was abcdefg== and your password was d0gecoin
Then, type in

Code: Select all

wallet.pw_decode('abcdefg==', 'd0gecoin')
8. if the password is correct, the next line will give you a string of 32 HEX characters (0-9, A-F) between single quotes. THIS IS YOUR UNENCRYPTED SEED! BE CAREFUL WITH THIS INFORMATION, IT WILL RESTORE YOUR WALLET FOR ANYONE WHO SEES IT!

Note for 8: If the password is wrong, it will say "Exception Invalid Password"... pressing up arrow key will re-insert the last command so you won't have to re-type too much besides the password. Also, the console won't hide your password and you will be typing it in plaintext onto the console. Be sure to do this in private.

9. Now you have your HEX based seed. Click "New Wallet" in File menu, then choose second option "Restore from seed", then in the seed box paste your 32 characters HEX seed with NO QUOTATIONS. and hit next.

10. You have now restored your bitcoins.

If you have access to that seed that you saved when you first installed Electrum (I'd be very disappointed if you didn't), then you should be free to uninstall the wallet. Try using a different computer that you have access to that is secure, and install electrum on it and test your seed before uninstalling.

dear OP, as I understood, you don't have your seed anymore,... but there's still a solution:

go to your HOME folder, then ctrl+h to make appear your masked folders.

- you should now see a .electrum folder : open it, and save the folder marked: "wallets"

save this folder on your desktop.

then, now, reinstall electrum.

once done, replace your new "wallet folder " ( in your new .electrum file) by the saved one.

as you should still remember your password: you will recover your funds.

don't hesitate to contact me if you need help.

Kind regards

Deffy ;)
