Wanted to buy some stuff online using bitcoin but bought BCH and the seller is using BTC can it be recovered ?
Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin Core (BTC) are both irreversible payment systems. So, unfortunately, there is no way to reverse a sent transaction, or for you to recover the BCH from your end.
Bitcoin Cash (BCH) can usually be recovered from a Bitcoin Core (BTC) address, but this can only be done from the "_Receivers_" end.
If you have sent BCH to a BTC address, then you will need to ask the receiving party to recover the BCH funds for you. If they do not know how to recover BCH from their BTC address, they will need to contact the support team of their wallet provider.
The keys are the same on each chain (BCH and BTC). Whoever controls/owns the BTC private key (for the BTC public address you've sent to) may be able to recover the BCH by importing, or sweeping, the BTC private key into a wallet which supports BCH.
If you sent the coins to a company, merchant, website, a 3rd party invoice or to someone using a custodial wallet they might not be willing (or able) to attempt recovery the coins. Some examples might include:
- address type
- wallet software or other application
- risking the time (time is valuable)
- security risk
Please contact the company or individual that you sent the coins to as they are the only ones that can assist you. Bitcoin (BCH/BTC) is a P2P (peer-to-peer) permissionless network. When you send a bitcoin transaction there is no 3rd party involved, it is a transaction strictly between yourself and the person/company you are transacting with.
