Today, two similar proposals came out within an hour of each other, for adding OP_RETURN-based tokens to bitcoin cash. These allow the creation and trade of tokens without any need for bitcoin cash protocol changes. These two proposals share many similarities but also differ in important ways. One group (of which I am a member) proposed a new specification called Simple Ledger Protocol (SLP), whereas the other, from Cryptonize.it, proposes to revive a functional implementation from Colu that seems to have fallen into disuse, and so this document will compare the new SLP specification to the specification of Colu Colored Coins.
