Complaints from Bitcoin Users

Wed Jun 15, 2016 7:06 pm

Each time I see a complaint from a user, I am going to publish their post here. This will provide anyone who is concerned with a transparent view of what's going on, it will also help the average user to hopefully avoid problems other customers have gone through. Knowledge is power.

Complaints from users, Day 1 (15/06/2016):

Is your transaction not being confirmed?
"Are you being told that its because you paid low fee? That its because the network is being spammed?

The truth is that, most of the time, you paid perfectly fine fee. The so called spammers are other regular users just like you. Miners would love to mine your transaction. But there is a company called Blockstream that has a business model dependent on crippling bitcoin. This company bullied miners into not mining transactions such as yours. Fees are now >2% of mining revenue, >4% in 25 days.

Huge tx backlog - High Fees - Slow Confirmation. Please could somebody from Blockstream explain how this is good for bitcoin useage and new adoption ? And how this does not push new users into Alt-Coins?
"I have asked Core /u/nullc and /u/luke-jr so many times how slow bitcoin confirmation and high fees can somehow be good for bitcoin. To me it seems like a total joke. An auction to get on a full up bus ? If I was new to Crypto there is no way I would use bitcoin , I would try one of the Alt-coins , where there is no congestion , an empty bus going to the same place for a fraction of the price. Surely if we want bitcoin to gain traction in it's early days , we need to decrease confirmation times and reduce the price of tx . Why are Core stalling bitcoin ? Could somebody from the Core team please explain this ? Thank You." - the-goat-herder

These graphs show that fees for inclusion in 2nd block just shot up 10x from 50 to 500 satoshis/kB, and mempool size just shot up from <5 MB to 30 MB. Would you feel safe sending a transaction into the network now? Can Bitcoin rally if the blocksize remains artificially limited by Blockstream/Core?

To select a longer time period, zoom out on the graph by clicking on the word "6 hours ago" to the right of the words "Zoom Out" - which will reveal a drop-down menu.

https://tradeblock.com/bitcoin

To see the increase in the Mempool Size (from less than 5 MB, to 30 MB), go to the graph on the graph on the lower right called "Recent Mempool", and use the two menus to select "7 Days" and "Size".

How can Bitcoin continue to rally, if the network is becoming backlogged due to unnecessary congestion?

12 hours no confirmations
"https://blockchain.info/tx/355386977d6e ... 15ab71c595

I am not sure what has taken so long. I know very little about bitcoin. I deposited about .28 btc in a btc gambling site and I won like .5 btc but now it won't let me withdraw because it says it doesn't have 2 confirmations.

Any suggestions?

Delayed confirmation?
"https://blockchain.info/tx/33ddeadc40f8 ... 0c4b3f39d0

I don't see this happen often. It says it should confirm soon but it's taken almost 2 hours now. The problem is, I paid a bitpay invoice, and now that invoice says something along the lines of transaction could not confirm please email us.

If this does confirm (I am not sure if it will), will the bitpay invoice update automatically and credit my purchase or will I lose this money?

I hate how unreliable bitcoin can be with all this confirmation problem." - lifetalk

Transaction was rejected, is it safe to assume it will return to my wallet?
"When viewing the block chain I get the message "Transaction rejected by our node. Reason: Non canonical signature: High S value"

In the wallet it has 0 conformations and is unconfirmed.

I've installed a newer version of electrum and restored from seed but the transaction is unconfirmed.

Would it be safe to assume it will return eventually and I can send another transaction or is their a risk of it double sending?" - StoppedLurking_ZoeQ

Unconfirmed transaction - 12+ hours
"Hello. I received a payment that is unconfirmed after close to 16 hours. It has zero confirmations.

The fee the sender used was too low. 0.0003 BTC for a transaction with a size of 5,300 bytes.

Based on others experience, what are the changes of this never confirming?" - fishfanstan

"Just pay a higher fee" isn't a proper solution though
"if we would all pay the recommended fee, than that fee would keep on increasing, because there can only be so many transactions in a block, eventually the fee will become high enough that people will start to move over to other blockchains with proper scaling solutions." - BigBoom3599

You can't fix a capacity problem with fees.
"If there are only 20 seats on the bus and 25 people that want to ride there is no ticket price where everyone gets a seat. You don't even know how much you have to over pay to get a seat. This is a bus business where customers are going to leave... especially when they discover there are many alt-bus companies that do the same thing better and for less and without capacity restraints." - Vibr8Kiwi
