Censorship on /r/Bitcoin, Bitcoin.org, Bitcointalk, etc

Sun Oct 08, 2017 1:37 pm

Does anyone else find it odd that the biggest purveyors of censorship (Theymos, BTCDrak, CobraBitcoin, BashCo, etc) are all anonymous figures? Any thoughts why these people don't stand up and proudly take credit for what they are doing like the Gavin Andresens, Mike Hearns, and Jeff Garziks of the world? Are these people just freedom hating idiots, or are they part of a bigger effort to thwart Bitcoin adoption? Let's hear your best theories.

To me it all boils down to power. They want to remain in control at any cost of Bitcoin development and communication and information channels. Control is power. They have this blood lust for power that they are doing anything possible to keep it even at the detriment to the entire Bitcoin network. They have become blind to their own actions and how harmful it is to everyone around them.

Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity. :P

As for why they're anonymous, I don't really see why it matters, or why we should dream up theories as to why that is. Wondering about other people's motives is like worrying about stuff: it's so easy to allow it to occupy all your thinking time, but it accomplishes very little.

At this point it's pretty clear that their coordinated, years-long, censorship campaigns across nearly all major Bitcoin communications channels (/r/bitcoin, bitcoin.org, bitcointalk.org, bitcoin.it, Slack, IRC, mailing lists, etc) is malicious and not mere stupidity.

There is a name associated with his account, but as far as I know, no one is sure if it's a real person or not.

I am not going to dox him but it is not hard to find, his name was printed on the subpoena in the Ross Ulbricht trial when he was asked to provide copies of discussion threads.
