I'm not a miner, so I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to mining.

I'm looking at your 24h chart showing your mining hashrates, and how come the line isn't a fast one? There are dips once in a while, but the line is jittery. If I'm not mistaken, mining speed is based on how many random hashes the board can make in a period of time. Shouldn't there be little to no variance in speeds?

It's not like writing data to a drive, where the CPU has to access different sectors of the drive, so it slows down, right? I would think it's more like clock speeds, which are very stable.

The short answer is no. The slightly more complex explanation has several factors.

1) NastyPool has been undergoing some maintenance lately as we are adding another US node. This has caused the miners to occasionally fall to a separate NastyPool node, and the statistics are not all combined yet, so it actually produces another graph. You can view it on the list of miners at: https://nastyfans.org/miners/

2) Mining is significantly based on luck. The higher you have your share difficulty set, the higher the variance. I could manually set my share difficulty extremely low for a pretty graph with a straight line, but it wouldn't improve earnings at all and would waste bandwidth.

3) Other factors could be, relocation of miners, restarts, firmware upgrades, power outages, internet outages, pool restart, bug in pool graphing script, etc...

Lots of progress today. I've included some pictures and even a drone video of the installation. I'm told the panels will go up first thing tomorrow morning.

I've just received notification that the final inspection by the electric company will take place tomorrow. If everything goes well, by tomorrow afternoon NastyMining will officially be running on solar power!

I'll make sure that my dog is on the side yard to keep the inspector away from looking over the fence at the sub-panel routing 140amps into an upstairs closet. It should be fine.

That's a great example for us! I'd be happy to join NastyMining Green Energy Project. While energy efficiency helps you save at home and at the pump, it helps businesses and city, state and federal governments save on a much bigger scale. As for me, I have already started. I put the solar panels on my roof, and started working with one heating denver co (http://www.summitheatingco.com/) They will install a new boiler for me, that can use solar energy. I'm sure that using fewer of America's energy resources – like oil or gas – means we don't need to depend so much on foreign nations. With energy efficiency, we save energy resources for future generations to use.

Today I received notification that all of my documents have been approved by the electric company. The next step will be an installer coming out to verify that the installed equipment matches the approved documents and swap out a test production meter with a bi-directional billing meter. At that point I will be awaiting final email confirmation that the system has passed all safety inspections in order to flip the switch and activate the system.

Everything is already paid for, but the contest winnings did help pay for about 65% of the cost of a new L3+ miner for the operation.
